Dear Friends,

I am going on a health sabbatical effective immediately. Because of this, I will no longer be able to manage Julianne Tarroja and Toto Sorioso (or any other artist for that matter). However, I have promised both Julianne and Toto that I will continue to represent them as far as their label is concerned until they are able to find new managers. As far as bookings are concerned, you may contact them directly.

Thank you,
KarinA

Dear Friends,

Chu Santos will be returning to Team SUGARFREE as the band’s Road Manager. She may be contacted through the SUGARFREE Hotline 09088878427 (090888SUGAR). I will continue working alongside Chu to honor existing commitments I’ve booked for the band. However, effective immediately, Kerwin Rosete, a respected colleague (who manages Itchyworms, Silent Sanctuary, Delara, etc.) will be the new manager of the band. Join me and SUGARFREE in welcoming him to the Team.

Thank you,
KarinA

Toto Sorioso [right] first approached A&R executive Francis “Kiko” Guevarra in 2007 when the latter was still working at EMI Philippines. Well over a year later Toto sought out Guevarra at MCA Music. Last January 31, 2009, Guevarra invited his boss, Mr. Ricky Ilacad [left], to watch Toto’s performance at 70s Bistro on Anonas, Quezon City. Since then, everything happened quickly; an offer by the record label was made…Toto tapped an long-time friend and trusted colleague, Karin Araneta, to negotiate the record deal on his behalf…and last May 15, 2009, Toto Sorioso signed a two-album recording contract with MCA Music.

Congratulations, Toto!

Undeniably world class, JULIANNE TARROJA performed last 16 March, 2009 at the recently concluded Mosaic Festival in Singapore.

SUGARFREE celebrates 10 Years
by Karin Araneta

2007 was expected to be “The End” for local rock bands. Although this did not exactly prove true, record companies and a handful of acts in the band scene actually felt a decline. But a few groups managed to cheat their death. Sugarfree is one such band.

Sugarfree is the band behind the hits “Hari ng Sablay,” “Makita Kang Muli” (theme song of the ABS-CBN telenovela “Panday”), “Kwarto,” “Tulog Na,” “Dear Kuya,” and a lot more. The power trio is composed of Ebe Dancel on lead vocals and guitar, Jal Taguibao on bass and back-up vocals, and newcomer Kaka Quisumbing on drums. They take pride in the robustness of their sound despite being a mere three-man band.

It is quite ironic, therefore, that they chose to work with a 33-piece ensemble for their first major concert held last September 29, 2007 at the Music Museum. Sugarfree celebrated their 8th year anniversary with grandeur by sharing the stage with no less than the Manila Symphony Orchestra in this ambitious endeavor. A live album entitled “Sugarfree Live! with the Manila Symphony Orchestra” was released the following year.

This 2009, Sugarfree turns 10. The year-long anniversary celebration will culminate in two-night major concert. This happens on August 27 and 28, 2009 at the Music Museum.

This concert is a production of BlackT (a subsidiary of I manage.).

SUGARFREE is no longer under EMI Management and, as such, will no longer be using +63920-9389267. Please delete this number to avoid confusion.

You may reach SUGARFREE at the new SUGARFREE HOTLINE +63-90888SUGAR (+63-9088878427).
